the gold of lychnis
The gold of Lychnis (without a tendency for it to be exhaustive and complete as an “archaeological story”) actually depicts the flourishing of gold as an ageless and eternal value at the Lychnitis (Ohrid) lake area. With all the strength of its power as a value, it especially glittered towards the end of the Archaic period (end of 6th-first half of 5th century) with the strengthening and the class separation of the tribal aristocracy, which, surely had what to leave behind. With the strong belief in “life after life”, expressed though the philosophy of their own rituals and through the power and immortality of the gold as a unique and most significant civilization amulet. In the future, Ohrid could expect plenty from this period, especially from the area that is only partially touched and “pampered” with the archaeological spatulas and brushes – the area to the south and southeast of the “Forbidden Meadow” that surely promises to the future generations’ creative excitements of the archaeological past of the town.
